About NonSense…
NonSense was born under mysterious circumstances at a SENSE A1 course in the middle of nowhere (Apeldoorn) in the Netherlands. The co-editors were asked to come up with a bright idea about how SENSE PhD students from all over Netherlands can bring their experiences together and share the perils of a lonely PhD life. In between numerous coffee breaks; table tennis, pool, poker and volleyball sessions, we thought and we fought, and finally decided to laugh it all off by suggesting a fun monthly interactive newsletter with an undecided name that would seek contributions from PhD’ers, publish them online and seek comments from other PhD’ers; thereby creating a platform for academic as well as non-academic exchange. To our surprise, people liked it and encouraged us to turn the suggestion into a reality! Perhaps it was all the appreciation, too much coffee, or simply a temporary moment of insanity that we agreed to do this – not realising all that this would involve. Since we didn’t want it to sound too nerdy, we spiced up the name to NonSense. The rest, as the cliché goes, is history… At the end, we are all very proud of this issue; we are very pleased we decided to do this; and as we present the first issue of NonSense, we sincerely hope that you will like what you see. We also hope that you will feel motivated, even compelled, to contribute to future issues. Happy NonSense’ing…
